Scoutreach: 2007/8 Charity of Choice
The Rich Kinney-Anne Beckworth Scoutreach Scholarship Fund

In Memory of Anne Beckworth & Rich Kinney
"Just ordinary folks doing extraordinary things!"
What is Scoutreach Program?

Scoutreach is a Boy Scouts of America program, which supports an at-risk, urban, disadvantaged girl or boy for a week of camping experiences for $135. The kids, selected by partner organizations dedicated to serving diverse youth in urban communities, are challenging to reach because of cultural, lingual, and socio-economic issues. Scoutreach donations aim to provide the scouting advantage to over 7,000 at-risk Portland area girls and boys at Scouter’s Mountain, Happy Valley, Oregon. In addition to Scoutreach, boys are given funded memberships in Boys Scouts of America, following the standard curriculum of Cub/Boy Scouts. Some girls in Scoutreach program are already Girl Scouts. The director of the Scoutreach program is Vernard Taylor.

How are funds provided for these children during camp experience?
Funds come from donations and grants to the BSA-Scoutreach. Scoutreach program became Bergfreunde Ski Club’s charity of choice in May 2007. By October 2007, Bergfreunde donations sponsored 23 children and their families with week long camping experience on Scouter’s Mountain.

How the Anne Beckworth-Rich Kinney Scholarship Fund about?
Former Eagle Scout, Rich Kinney and companion, former Girl Scout, Anne Beckworth, were Bergfreunde members who died in a January ‘07 car crash. Rich’s family donated items to Bergfreunde; and sold or donated to other organizations. To honor Rich and Anne’s love of scouting and the outdoors, the families and Bergfreunde Ski Club initiated a scholarship program to support camping experiences for at-risk children. Rich and Anne lived ordinary lives but they did extraordinary things. With donations supporting Scoutreach camping, perhaps urban kids will find inspiration for living extraordinary lives, too!

For $135.00 one child will experience and learn in a week-long camp, but any amount is appreciated.
