The Bergie Social is a monthly get together of members of the Bergfreunde Ski Club. It used to be called the Bergfreunde General Meeting but the majority of the members really used the time to visit with other members. So we stopped having monthly 'Business' meetings and changed the format to a more 'Social' environment. However, there are some other very important aspects of the Bergie Social. They are:
Event Sign-ups:
Event leaders staff a table to provide information about the events they are leading. They take sign-ups, hand out flyers, show examples of what the event will be like, and are there as a resource to inform prospective participants about the event. Not all events have tables, such as no-cost day hikes or bike or kayak events. However, most overnight events or events that do have a cost, will have a table.
For Your Information (FYI):
We usually have a number of people who have come to 'take a look' at our club and want more information. We have a 45 minute presentation called FYI to explain our club and some of our club leadership also attend to answer any questions you may have about the club. We also take membership applications at this meeting.
Look What We Have Been Doing:
This section of the social is a continuously running photo show of our latest events. It is held in the social area and usually has a group of people talking about the fun they had on that specific event. It is also a way to show the rest of the members what the event was like in case they want to participate in the future.
Business Meeting:
Two times a year we hold a business meeting at the Bergie Social. One is our annual 'State of the Club' meeting in which we discuss the health of the club, how we are doing financially, the number of events we have led, and any major changes coming up. That is usually held at the July Social. The second business meeting is held in April when we present the candidates running for next year's board of directors. That provides an opportunity for members to ask questions of the prospective new board members. The results of the elections are announced at the May Social.
Program Events:
Sometimes we have program events in a separate area. Program events are keynote speakers, vendors, or event leaders who wish to meet with their event participants.
Dance and/or Dance Lessons:
After the other aspects of the socials have been completed, we normally have a couple of hours open and dedicated to those who like to dance. We have our own DJ and equipment and we invite our members and guests to stay and dance. The dance closes at 10pm.
Participation varies with between 200-300 attendees being present for any given social. Summer months, when members can stay and play outside later into the evening, usually has lower attendance than the winter months.
Come check us out and attend one of our Bergie Socials. Guests pa a $5.00 cover charge to help defray the cost of the facility. However, if you join that evening, that amount is applied to the cost of your membership.
